Our DNA
Unraveling my DNA. It seems so complicated, so confusing, but I am going to try learn as much as I can about it, and will share what I have learned here.
On Saturday, January 10, 2015, I began doing research and taking notes about Blood, Chromosomes, and DNA. I spent the following week going over my notes, and making pages about what I have learned. Today, January 18, I would like to post some of the information I have gathered.
About My DNA
As of today, November 8, 2014, 23andme.com has provided me with 6 - 2nd to 3rd cousins, 272 - 4th cousins, and 643 distant cousins. 921 total.
My first match was with a 2nd cousin. Her name is Elsie Morse. Actually, it was her son, Jeffery, that contacted me, and together we found our common ancestors. Elisabeth Helene Pageau and Pierre Dicaire. Elisabeth was born in 1854, and Pierre in 1852. They are my 3X Great Maternal Grandparents. They had 11 children. Their first born, Sara/Sarah, born 17 May, 1873 is my Great Great Maternal Grandmother. Their 4th born, Edwidge, born in 1881 is Elsie's Grandmother. Edwidge gave birth to Marguerite Gagnon, who is Elsie's mother. Elsie's father is Leo Lauzon. My Great Great Grandmother, Sara, married Victor Antoine Lozen. The spelling is different, but I must investigate if they are related. Sara and Victor had 11 children. Beatrice, born in 1911 is my biological maternal Great Grandmother. Elsie shares 1.60% on 8 segments of DNA. |
As of today, January 31, 2015, 23andme.com has provided me with 7- 2nd to 3rd cousins, 288- 4th cousins, and 643 distant cousins. 938 total.
As of today, August 21, 2015, 23andme.com has different information than earlier this year.
Now it shows I have 9 - 2nd and 3rd cousins - 343 4th cousins - and 549 Distant cousins. 901 Total I have also uploaded my DNA to GEDMatch.com. I have 2 kit numbers entered there. For some reason the first kit shows Elsie, the 2nd one does not. |
